Ron’s Fantasy HR Dept
By Ron | July 9, 2008
We have a Vision. Before designing our fantasy HR department, we should create a Mission based on our Vision. How about…
We believe that anyone who has people reporting to them are the real Human Resource Managers. Our leverage is with them because they effect all of the employees and the environment in the organization. Our role is to be a catalyst. We will ensure that the best managers are hired or promoted. We provide them with the tools to be the best managers/leaders including our coaching, training and reinforcement.
Is this not the essence of our existence as a function? 80/20 theory means that we should focus on the things that produce the most results. I assert that what many HR departments do is focus on the “20’s” (spend 80% of their time on the issues and items that do not accomplish the vision/mission). For example, the company Christmas Party, LOA administration, and countless other administrative chores do little to support the above Mission. These duties are necessary, but should not be considered as “80’s.”
Now, maybe we are ready to organize our Fantasy HR Department.
