« Human Resources - We Rock | Main | 3 Ways to Get to the Table »
The Payback for the “New” HR Department
By Ron | July 22, 2008
With our new Vision, Mission, and re-organization of our Human Resources Department, we are taking our place at that “table” as equals. The big payback is that we are now helping run the business and are recognized for our contribution. We are no longer viewed as lackeys and overhead. As Rodney Dangerfiled used to say, “I get no respect.” We are no longer the Rodney Dangerfields of our organization.
Realistically, this tranisition will not happen overnight. We have to earn the respect. The others at the table may still be looking at us as the event planners, the naysayers, or the adminstrators, but we can win them over as long as we stay committed to our vision. The value we bring to the table is our ability to tie-in the human resource element to every aspect of how the business is run and be able to present this case in business terms so that “they” can understand and buy-in.
People determine the success of the company/organization. We should be the recognized catalyst for demonstrating this fact. This means that we have to take the lead on hiring the best and maintaining the best.
