Post HR Rehab

Okay, let’s say we’ve returned from our mythical rehab to our place of work. Like most people coming back from an off-site seminar, we’re full of enthusiasm and hope. However, after a week or two, we run into the wall of reality. We have changed, but the company is still the same.
Here is the deal about our particular situation - no matter what we do, the perception of the Human Resource function typically stays the same. I have seen a similar phenomenon - a company drastically improves their customer service or their product, but their customers don’t see it. Sometimes a supplier can never turn around the customers’ perception no matter what the company does. Actually, when I think about it, not many people outside of Human Resources get it and they may never get it. Like I have said before; work outside of HR and you get to see HR like they do. It’s not always pretty.
Anyway, we have choices. We can stay where we are and push that 500 pound boulder up the mountain or we can move on and hope that the next organization will work out better. Sometimes it is better to stay where you are and get behind that boulder and hope that it doesn’t role back over you. You may get lucky and get new, enlightened management or, If you are a charismatic individual, you might be able to crush the boulder and throw the rocks up to the top.
I never said it was going to be easy. Tomorrow: the good news.
