A Christmas Present For Business

By Ron | September 14, 2009

Senator Tom Harkin, who is replacing Ted Kennedy as chairperson of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pension Committee, has recently stated, “This session of congress we are going to get the EFCA passed – maybe before Christmas.

Harkin went on to say, “This is personal to me.  A few people on our side have wobbly knees, and you have to straighten those knees out.”  I wonder how he is going to do that?  Do you have to break the knees first?

Senator Harkin is waiting until there is a new Democratic Senator from Massachusetts seated and then he will have his 60 votes needed to avoid a filibuster.

So, for you Human Resource people who still doubt that the Employee Free Choice Act will become a reality, don’t be surprised if you receive an early Christmas present under your tree.  I’m still sticking to my prediction months ago – it’s coming and I hope you’re ready.

It probably is coming. Why on earth does Harkins keep getting re-elected? Could someone from Iowa let me know? The state has excellent education systems so that can’t be it.
